Mediocre Sites

These sites have been reviewed by UKHelpdesk, but are fairly disappointing and we'd only use them if we were getting desperate.

PC Format www.pcformat.co.uk  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
PC Format review: The online version of PC Format magazine, sadly only containing encouragement to subscribe, a few forums, and numerous pop-ups. Disappointing.

Sprant - eCommerce StartUp Resources www.sprant.com  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
Sprant - eCommerce StartUp Resources review: Essentially a series of links (mainly commission-generating) to service providers such as insurance companies, ISPs, company registrars, search engine submission. Not the most beautiful site, and we know little about the companies features, so difficut to recommend.

My Tyres www.mytyres.net  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
My Tyres review: Order tyres from this site and they will deliver them to you. Not sure quite what you do with them when they arrive, since their list of fitters is limited. Frankly we're not terribly excited and the design is poor, but if you're after tyres then the company looks reasonably trustworthy.

IndianDoctors www.indiandoctors.co.uk  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
IndianDoctors review: Fairly desperate-looking site providing a few links which I imagine may be useful for doctors, but overwhelmed by adverts (which take a good while to load before you get a chance to look at anything else), and more general links. Hopeless in Netscape.

Dabs www.dabs.com  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
Dabs review: We used to think... Reliable provider of a whole range of computer and technology products. Generally cheap and provides good stock visibility. But Dabs have really gone down hill over the past couple of years. They don't provide a telephone number, they give automated responses to emails, and even the postal address is hidden away. They have served us well in the past, and we've got some positive votes for them as well, so not on the Grim List yet, but very disappointed in the way they are going.

Keep-Talking Mobile Communications www.keep-talking.net  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
Keep-Talking Mobile Communications review: Sites which don't provide a physical postal address get low marks from us. Sites which simply deliver adverts dressed-up as content get low marks. This site has both. Having said that, it does have a little useful content, and some moderately active forums.

Encyclopędia Britannica www.britannica.com  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
Encyclopędia Britannica review: What once took up yards of shelf space can now be searched and viewed online. Unfortunately only very basic searches are free, thereafter payment is required. Also features pop-ups of the type which spawn another window when you close them, and banner adds. Subscription or advertising please, not both. Very Although initial searches are free, additional detail requires subscription.

QJump www.qjump.co.uk  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
QJump review: Sadly attempts to queue jump are limited by a poor site compared to TheTrainLine. Annoyances include not knowing which tickets are available for the selected train until you attempt to book, leading to lengthy frustration searching for when you can book the cheapest fare. Not a total disaster, and a relatively new site, so hopefully it will improve.

Guardian Jobs Unlimited www.jobsunlimited.co.uk  Open Site in New Window
Rating: 2 Stars
Guardian Jobs Unlimited review: Limited job opportunities, badly listed. Does include a salary range search, which is a big step forward, but otherwise duff search facilities. Poorly designed - multitudes of pop-up windows, and one fantastic 'Job Role' selection box, three lines high, from which you select one of 250 roles, not sorted.
